Javier Vasquez is a second generation musician with experience in contemporary, Jazz, and classical performance. Born and raised in Austin Texas, his first experience with the horn was in the realm of classical music, where he learned fundamentals and technique in the classical idiom. With these practice techniques and influences, and without a formal lesson teacher, he taught himself Jazz fundamentals. This was enough to land him a spot at the prestigious University of North Texas. While attending the University of North Texas he gained a plethora of experience not only in jazz performance, but in contemporary art as well, this includes pop/rnb/rock and many more forms of commercial music. Ensembles he was apart while he attended includes, University and Concert Band (classical), the 5 -7 O'clock Lab band (jazz big band), and the Zebras Contemporary ensemble (pop/rock/rnb ect.). While attending he was awarded a Student Downbeat Award with his performance with the Latin Jazz ensemble, which is a Latin American Music band with Jazz influences.Javier is well equipped with techniques that can mold him into any genre he sees fit. This means for any student wanting to learn a genre that is not apart of the common jazz/classical idiom, Javier will work with the student in order to mold them into the musician THEY want to be. Javier has been teaching since 2021 and has continuously improved his teaching methods that fit the needs of the student. His philosophy is to create an environment of curiosity and self-improvement that can be applied to any part of the student's life. He will continue to improve his teaching methods and work with the student to create more than just a saxophonist, but a tried and true musician.
